World Sound Healing Day

I received many suggestions that Feb 14 should be examined for possible effects of the 5th Annual World Sound Healing Day on February 14, 2007. The following paraphrases one of the major organizers, Jonathan Goldman:

Like all previous World Sound Healing Days, this is a day when people throughout the planet will take five minutes to send a Sonic Valentine to the Earth with the heart sound "AH" filled with the intention of Peace and Love! I think you will agree that now, more than ever, we need to consciously project sound to the planet in order to assist in co-creating peace and harmony. Join together with thousands of people throughout the planet as they tone an "AH" together for five minutes during that day, projecting the energy of Light & Love throughout the Planet.

As part of our continuing assessment of different categories of events, this was included in the array of efforts to use modern communications, especially email lists, the Internet, and intentional word-of-mouth recruitment to organize meditations and peace prayers on a large scale.

The formal hypothesis test was defined for the 24 hour UTC day. The result has Chisquare 86255.137 on 86400 df, for p = 0.636 and Z=-0.347. The outcome is thus slightly negative, and not interpretable as evidence for an effect for this event. Of course our signal to noise ratio is very small, so the result should not be taken as a negative indicator.
